Terms of Use

Last updated: 22 September 2026

These are the rules for using Ataa. They apply whether you are paying someone, selling something, or raising money for a cause. By using Ataa you agree to them.

Who we are, and what Ataa is

Ataa is run by Ataa Pay (registration number 2026/540145/07), 120 Church Street, Cape Town, 8001.

Ataa is software. It gives vendors and causes a page, a QR code, a way to be found, and tools for bookings and invoices. It is not a bank, and it is not a payment service provider.

We do not hold your money. When you pay someone through Ataa, the payment is handled by a payment provider and goes to that vendor or cause — either directly into their own payment account, or split to them at the moment of payment. Ataa never takes custody of funds belonging to somebody else.

Your account

You must be 18 or older. Keep your login details to yourself, give us accurate information, and keep it up to date. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

If you are buying, booking or giving

When you buy something, book something or give to a cause through Ataa, your agreement is with that vendor or cause — not with Ataa. They are responsible for providing what you paid for.

That means questions about a tour, a product, a cancellation or a refund go to the vendor. We will help where we can, but we cannot refund money we never held, and we cannot force a vendor to do so.

Prices shown are set by the vendor. Where a booking requires a deposit or has a cancellation cut-off, that is shown before you confirm.

If you are a vendor

  • Give us true information about yourself and your business, including your identity and banking details, and tell us when it changes.
  • You are responsible for your own tax, licences, permits and insurance. Ataa does not handle any of these for you.
  • Honour the bookings you accept and the prices you publish.
  • Only list things you are legally allowed to sell.
  • If you connect your own payment link, you are responsible for that account, for what customers are charged through it, and for any refunds.
  • Keep your subscription up to date if you are on a paid plan. Features may be limited if it lapses.

New vendor accounts are reviewed before they go live, and we may approve, decline or later suspend an account. Our review confirms that paperwork has been submitted — it is not a guarantee, endorsement or recommendation of any vendor to a customer.

Once an account is verified, address, identity and banking details lock. You can request a change and we will unlock them for a single edit. This protects both of us.

If you are a cause

  • Everything in the vendor section above applies to you too.
  • Donations given through Ataa are yours in full — we take no percentage of a donation, on any plan.
  • Describe your work honestly, and use donations for the purpose you described.
  • Do not publish photographs, names or identifying details of the people you help. Ataa is built to show the work, not the people who receive it, and we may remove content that does otherwise.

Fees and subscriptions

Our current plans and prices are on the pricing page. Paid plans are billed monthly in advance. You can cancel at any time and your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund part-months.

Where a transaction fee applies, it is shown on the pricing page. Donations to causes carry no Ataa fee. Payment providers may charge their own fees, and those are separate from ours.

We may change our prices. If we do, we will give existing subscribers reasonable notice before it affects them.

Reviews

Reviews can only be left by someone who actually made a booking. We may remove reviews that are abusive, dishonest, or that contain personal information about somebody else. We do not edit reviews to make a vendor look better.

What you may not do

  • Use Ataa for anything unlawful, fraudulent or misleading.
  • Take payments for something you cannot or do not intend to provide.
  • Use Ataa to collect money on behalf of somebody else without telling us.
  • Upload content you do not have the right to use, or that infringes someone else's rights.
  • Attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the platform or to other users' information.
  • Impersonate another person, business or cause.

Your content

The photographs, descriptions and other content you upload remain yours. By uploading them you give us permission to display them on Ataa and to use them to promote your listing and the platform. You can remove your content at any time, and we will stop using it going forward.

Suspending or closing an account

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that we reasonably believe is being used fraudulently, or where we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right.

You can close your own account at any time from your account settings. What happens to your information is set out in our Privacy Policy.

Availability

We work to keep Ataa running, but we do not promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or withdraw features, and we will give notice where a change materially affects how you use the service.

Responsibility

Ataa is provided as it is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profit, or for the acts or omissions of a vendor, a cause, a customer or a payment provider.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act or any other South African law that cannot be excluded by agreement.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and we will tell account holders about significant changes. Continuing to use Ataa after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by South African law, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute.

If something has gone wrong, please talk to us first — most things are quicker to fix directly than formally.
